Number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide tops 24 million

WASHINGTON: The number of coronavirus infection cases across the world has surged to 24,363,709 and the pandemic has so far claimed over 830,352 lives.

According to the latest data, 16,895,982 patients have recovered from the pandemic so far. The United States tops with nearly 6,001,103 cases and more than 183,677 deaths followed by Brazil with over 3,722,004 cases and more than 117,756 deaths.

India has reported 3,314,953 cases while 60,652 deaths due to the coronavirus. The country has the third-highest number of recorded infections in the world. Over 975,576 people have infected while 16,804 people died of the virus in Russia.

South Africa has become one of the top five worst-hit countries in the coronavirus pandemic as the country reported over 615,701 infections. The country reported 13,502 deaths. Peru has reported 613,378 cases while 28,124 deaths.

In Chile, nearly 402,365 cases were confirmed, including more than 10,990 deaths. Meanwhile, the death toll is 21,020 in Iran as a confirmed number of cases is almost 365,606.

The United Kingdom has reported 41,465 fatalities and 326,614 infections. Saudi Arabia has reported 310,836 cases of coronavirus, while 3,755 coronavirus deaths have been reported.

Italy, which recorded its first coronavirus death at the end of February, has 35,458 fatalities, while 262,540 infections. Turkey reported 262,507 coronavirus cases and 6,183 fatalities.

China has to date declared 4,634 deaths and 85,004 cases, with 80,046 recoveries. In Belgium, 9,879 people succumbed to the disease while reported 83,030 cases due to the coronavirus.
