The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for various regions of Pakistan, effective from June 18 to June 22.
According to the advisory, most parts of the country are expected to experience intense heat during this period, particularly in southern Punjab, Sindh, eastern Balochistan, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The NDMA spokesperson stated that in Sindh, districts including Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur, and Nawabshah are likely to experience soaring temperatures. Similarly, in southern Punjab, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur may face intensified heat conditions.
In eastern Balochistan, the districts of Sibi, Nasirabad, Dera Murad Jamali, and Jaffarabad are expected to experience severe heat, while in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas like Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Bannu are likely to remain extremely hot.
The NDMA has urged the public to adopt precautionary measures in light of the forecasted heatwave. People are advised to stay hydrated, remain in shaded areas, and pay special attention to children, the elderly, and individuals with health issues. It is also strongly advised not to leave children or pets alone in parked vehicles.
The spokesperson further emphasized avoiding outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours. If going outside is unavoidable, necessary protective measures should be taken to prevent heat-related illnesses.
