LAHORE: The decision to showcase former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s photo on the Kisan Card in Punjab has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
Petitioner Mashkoor Hussain in his petition stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved Nawaz Sharif’s photo on the Kisan card, but public funds cannot be used for personal publicity.
Using the national treasure for personal publicity is a violation of the Supreme Court’s decision, the petition has requested that the court stay the execution of the decision to put up the picture until the decision is taken on the petition.
It should be noted that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz while approving the “Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card Project” said that the project aims to improve the agricultural sector and the socio-economic condition of farmers in the province.
The Chief Minister, while presiding over the meeting on agricultural reforms, said that 500,000 small farmers will be given loans on easy terms under the Kisan Card. This loan will be 150 billion rupees and will be given in one year.
Farmers will also be given loans of Rs 30,000 per acre of land for the purchase of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. He further said that under the Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card, various types of subsidies will also be provided to the farmers.
