LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned three Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) lawmakers from Punjab, including an MNA, in relation to corruption allegations.
According to details, the accountability bureau has summoned Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Ansar Majeed Khan Niazi on August 19 in an investigation pertaining to posting and transfer.
MPA Ghazanfar Abbas Chheena has been summoned on August 17 for acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. The anti-graft body has directed MNA Malik Karamat Ali Khokhar to appear before it on August 13.
The anti-graft body directed the lawmakers to appear before it along with records of their assets. The NAB has also summoned Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on August 12 in an investigation related to the issuance of a liquor licence.
The recent call-up notices to the PTI members come in the backdrop of the Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) statement urging Pakistani authorities to rein in NAB against political opponents.
The Human Rights Watch further said that Pakistan’s parliament should carry out urgent reforms to make the anti-corruption body independent.
“In its decision, the Supreme Court also expressed concern about the use of the NAB as an instrument to target government opponents,” read the statement.
