Naanbais in Lahore have announced an increase in the prices of roti and naan following the recent rise in petrol prices, adding further pressure on consumers already facing higher food costs.
Naan bakers have announced an increase of Rs9 in the price of roti and Rs10 in the price of naan, bringing the new prices to Rs25 for roti and Rs35 for naan.
The bakers said that a 20kg bag of flour is currently priced at Rs2,400, adding that they would shut down their tandoors if the government does not allow them to sell bread at prices reflecting their costs.
Speaking on the matter, the Director General of Food said that wheat prices would be reduced gradually over time.
Meanwhile, flour prices have also increased in other parts of the country. In Peshawar, the price of a 20kg flour bag has risen by Rs300 to Rs3,000.
In Quetta, a 20kg bag of flour has reached Rs2,800, while bread is being sold at Rs40 per piece at local tandoors.
