The Punjab Drug Control authorities have ordered the withdrawal of specific batches of three beauty creams, Golden Pearl Beauty Cream, Faeza Beauty Cream, and Jhalak Beauty Cream, after laboratory testing found the presence of ammoniated mercury, a substance prohibited in cosmetic products.
The Directorate General of Drugs Control Punjab (DDCP) issued Class-I prompt alerts on June 17 and June 22, directing manufacturers to immediately recall the affected batches from all levels of the supply chain.
Retailers, wholesalers and distributors have been instructed to stop the sale and distribution of the concerned products immediately.
They have also been asked to provide details of their current inventory and consumption records to their respective area drug inspectors.
According to the alerts, testing conducted by the Drug Testing Laboratory Punjab confirmed the presence of ammoniated mercury in specific batches of the three cosmetic products.
The regulator has directed all relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with the recall instructions and prevent further supply of the affected batches in the market.
Ammoniated mercury is a prohibited ingredient in cosmetics due to potential health risks associated with mercury exposure. The regulatory action applies to the identified batches only, as specified in the official alerts issued by Punjab’s drug control authorities.
