ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister had a closed-door meeting with an MQM-P delegation Tuesday, and sources inside the room shared what went down.
First thing on the table was missing MQM workers. The PM told Rana Sanaullah to form a committee to track their recovery. That order came straight from the PM, according to people in the meeting.
Then MQM brought up the budget. They complained Karachi, Hyderabad, and other urban areas in Sindh got ignored this time. Their demand was simple: make a separate package for cities.
The PM didn’t say no. He told them the package would be expanded within three months after the budget. That was his assurance.
Governor Sindh’s post came up too, and MQM took a hard line there. They reminded everyone there was a PDM deal. Back then, the governor’s slot was promised to MQM. After the federal government formed, word was it’d go to PML-N, but MQM ended up getting it anyway.
MQM’s side is they were never told about any plan to take the governor’s post back after that PDM agreement. Sources from MQM said no one even discussed it with them.
The PM didn’t settle it on the spot. He asked MQM to leave the governor issue for later and keep talking. Said they’d work it out.
On local government law, the PM announced an 8-member committee. Four members from PML-N, four from MQM. Job is to build consensus between all parties. That committee will handle the bill.
So right now: committee for missing workers, promise of a bigger urban package in 3 months, and an 8-person team for the LG bill. Governor Sindh is still hanging.
