KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and former MPA Muhammad Adil Siddiqui has passed away from coronavirus. He was aged 57.
Siddiqui had been admitted to a private hospital in Karachi since the last few days where he passed away. A spokesperson of the hospital said he died due to the coronavirus and was suffering from a lung-related illness.
The MQM leader had recently returned to Islamabad earlier this month after spending over six years abroad. His return came days after veteran party leader Haider Abbas Rizvi had landed in Pakistan after two years. The return of both leaders had raised speculation and it was expected that several MQM leaders were also expected to return to the country.
Earlier in November, Haider Abbas Rizvi had reached Karachi but it was not confirmed if he will participate in political affairs. It was reported that Rizvi had arrived to visit his ailing mother. Rizvi had been staying in Canada for several years. Two years ago, he made a brief visit to Karachi from Dubai and left soon afterward.
MQM-P’s Senior Deputy Convener Amir Khan while commenting on their return said that Haider Abbas Rizvi and Adil Siddiqui were still members of their party. However, he dismissed reports that other members of the party returning to the country terming them as unrealistic and far beyond the truth.
