QUETTA: At least eight people have died and 16 others sustained injuries in various rain-related accidents across Balochistan over the past two months, as heavy monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc in the region.
According to a detailed report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), four children were among the deceased, while 16 people—including 13 children—were injured in incidents involving lightning strikes, collapsed walls, and roof cave-ins.
The report highlighted particularly devastating incidents in Khuzdar and Zhob districts:
In Khuzdar, two people, including a child, lost their lives due to lightning strikes and roof collapses.
In Zhob, four fatalities, including three children, were reported in similar incidents.
Infrastructure Damage
The relentless rains and flash floods have also caused significant structural damage across the province:
41 houses were damaged in total.
17 houses in Khuzdar, Zhob, Harnai, and Barkhan were completely destroyed.
24 houses suffered partial damage.
Weather Forecast
The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting rain with thundershowers in most areas of Balochistan. Residents in Quetta, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Jafarabad, Dera Bugti, Panjgur, Awaran, Kalat, and Khuzdar are advised to brace for further rainfall, raising concerns about additional risks to life and property.
Meanwhile, local authorities and disaster management teams are on high alert, urging residents to take precautions and avoid vulnerable structures during the ongoing monsoon season. Relief efforts are underway to assist affected families, though the scale of the damage poses significant challenges.
