KARACHI: Mir Raza Ali murder case saw a new development as a local court gave police time till September 7 to submit the report.
Judicial Magistrate Sharqi heard the case on Monday. Investigation Officer Siraj Lashari appeared before the court. Lawyers for the victim’s family also appeared.
The IO filed a request for more time to submit the report, after which the court approved the request. It ordered the police to submit the report by September 7.

Plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Daniyal Hussain asked about progress in the investigation. He asked the IO to explain what has been achieved so far.
The IO said the forensic report of the mobile phone and other items is still pending. He said investigators await results from the forensic laboratory. The delay has slowed the investigation.
The Karachi Mir Raza murder case, it may be recalled here, was registered after the body of the 25-year-old businessman was found on July 29. Police initially termed it a suicide. A second postmortem after exhumation later confirmed homicide.
Family moves SHC against judicial commission
Earlier in the day, the father of the deceased, Mir Hussain Ali, along with sister Alisha and mother Maryam, reached the Sindh High Court. They plan to challenge the Sindh government’s decision to form a judicial commission.
Mir Hussain has expressed reservations and lack of confidence in the Mir Raza judicial commission. He said the family was not consulted before the announcement.
The Sindh government has written to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court for formation of the commission. It said the body will conduct a transparent inquiry under the Sindh Tribunals of Inquiry Ordinance 1969.
The family wants formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) instead. Their counsel Jibran Nasir said the family will file a petition opposing the commission.
The Mir Raza Ali murder case appears to now face parallel legal tracks, with the investigation pending before the magistrate and the commission issue before the high court.
