KARACHI: The local administration has imposed a micro smart lockdown in various areas of Keamari district for two weeks to contain the spread of the coronavirus amid the third wave of the pandemic.
According to a notification released by the deputy commissioner’s office, the micro smart lockdown will remain enforced until May 5 in three sub-divisions of Keamari district.
Keamari, Baldia and SITE have been put under the micro smart lockdown. The hotspots were identified by the district health officer (DHO). They are around ten coronavirus patients present in the three sub-divisions of the district.
The areas where the lockdown has been imposed include Keamari’s Jungle Shah Colony and Mauripur Road, along with SITE’s Metroville, Qasba Colony and Islam Nagar.
The notification said that the step has been taken because of the rising number of cases being reported in these “micro hotspots”. The lockdown will be in place from April 21 to May 4.
Wearing facemask has been declared mandatory by the local administration in the areas. Social gatherings will remain suspended while the movement of residents shall be strictly restricted. The commercial activities in the areas will continue with complete compliance with the COVID-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).
All COVID-19 positive people will remain in quarantine at their homes, while the government will take every possible step to ensure the delivery of groceries. Pakistan has reported 5,499 new covid-19 cases and 148 deaths in the last 24 hours. The toll has now reached 16,601.
