A strike swept through Gwadar and other coastal cities on Tuesday, following the Balochistan National Party-Mengal’s call to support the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) protests against a police crackdown and the arrest of its leaders. Businesses, banks, shops, and petrol stations shut down in solidarity, condemning the cases filed against BYC women leaders, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Bebo Baloch, and Sammi Deen Baloch.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal announced a long march on March 28 to protest the arrests.
In a post on X, he declared, “I will lead this march from Wadh to Quetta against the arrest of our daughters and the desecration of our mothers and sisters.” He urged all Baloch people, regardless of age, to join the march, emphasizing that the issue transcends politics and strikes at the heart of national dignity and honor.
Mengal accused the president and prime minister of complicity in the arrests, expressing outrage at the treatment of women leaders.
“Today, my daughters are being dragged through the streets without their headscarves,” he wrote. “This injustice will not be forgotten—this is a promise from a Baloch.”
He reiterated that respect for women is non-negotiable, vowing to continue the fight until their safety is ensured.
