Millions of people use Google Maps daily and search for various locations through this navigation service. If you are traveling in a crowded city by car or searching for a place, Google Maps can be very helpful.
According to a report by Geo News on Tuesday, this service also includes some excellent features that most people are unaware of. One such feature is the ability to view historical images of places hidden within Google Street View.
It is very easy to see the changes in locations over different years in Google Maps, whether you are using a desktop computer or a mobile device. In Google Street View, you can check how certain places looked in 2007 and how much they have changed since then.
If you are using Google Maps on a desktop computer, click on any location on the map where Street View is available. Then, click on the Street View panel located below.
Similarly, if you select a specific place such as a park or a hotel, details about it will appear in the info panel. After that, click on the Street Panel or Street & 360, and a photo gallery will appear.
If old images of that location are available, you will see a “See More Dates” link in the top left corner. Clicking on it will allow you to view all available historical dates. If you are using Google Maps on an Android phone or iPhone, there are two options to use Street View.
Press and hold a location on the map. If Street View images are available, they will appear in the bottom left corner. Similarly, you can press and hold a labeled place name, then select “Photos” and then “Street View & 360.”
If historical data is available for that location, you will see the “See More Dates” option at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to view past images. You can also use Google Earth to view historical satellite images.
On a desktop computer, click on the “Activate Historical Imagery” button in the toolbar, while in mobile apps, select the “Historical Imagery” option. In satellite images, you can even see pictures of certain parts of the world dating back to the 1970s.
