Rahim Khan, a local of Monora, enjoys diving in the ocean to rescue people’s lost valuables. He takes requests through Timekeeper. He does it all for free.
Manora is one the most popular destinations among Karachi beachgoers. And as it happens sometimes people lose valuables while taking a boat excursion along this stunning Karachi coastline.
“Sometimes I find lost jewelry in five minutes or less. Other times, it might take an hour,” Rahim Khan said while talking to MM News. “It all depends on weather conditions, tides, and if the owner felt the item slip off them — giving me an estimated radius of where the item may be.”
Mr Khan, who is a KPT employee, says he does this as a hobby. “If I can make somebody else’s day by being able to find someone’s lost stuff, it’s a win-win for everybody, and I love that about this,” he added.
Rahim Khan revealed he had learned diving as a kid when he along with his friends used to retrieve money from the sea. Rahim Khan says he can dive as deep as 40 to 45 feet without scuba gear.
According to Mr. Khan, the depth of the sea in Monora is about 30 to 35 feet.
“Although, it gets tough diving without oxygen,” he said “but with help of Allah, I still able to find people’s lost valuables,” adding that his success rate is about 90%.
Mr Khan says people generally lose jewelry such as rings necklace, cell phones etc.
“Sometimes people who’ve watched the tense search burst into spontaneous applause when I find the lost item,” Khan said “At other instances, the owner simply gives a relieved hug.”
