In a major step toward the digitalization of Pakistan’s education system, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) has announced that certificates for Classes 9, 10, 11, and 12 will now be verified exclusively through an online system.
According to a notification issued by the IBCC, the traditional method of submitting sealed envelopes for certificate verification in Sindh is being phased out. Instead, all verifications will now be conducted via an integrated digital platform, streamlining the process and improving accessibility.
Currently, the online verification system is operational with the Karachi Matric Board, Sukkur Education Board, and Ziauddin Board. The IBCC has urged all remaining Boards of Education in Sindh to promptly upload and digitize their student records in order to integrate with the new platform.
This move is part of the IBCC’s broader strategy to modernize academic procedures and facilitate easier access to official records for students, institutions, and employers alike.
In a separate but related development, the IBCC has also approved changes to the national grading system for matriculation and intermediate students. Beginning with the 2025 examinations, the passing mark has been raised from 33% to 40%.
Under the revised policy, teachers are now allowed to grant up to five grace marks—an increase from the previous three—to help a student meet the minimum passing requirement of 40%. However, these grace marks may only be applied to a maximum of two subjects. If a student fails in a third subject, no additional grace marks will be permitted.
These reforms reflect the IBCC’s commitment to aligning Pakistan’s education system with international standards and ensuring greater efficiency, transparency, and fairness for students nationwide.
