Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi met with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Saturday, where he extended an invitation for her to visit Japan, which she accepted.
The meeting focused on promoting mutual relations, enhancing trade cooperation, and fostering investment in various sectors. Both parties agreed on the need to explore new avenues for increasing economic cooperation between the two countries.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her gratitude for Japan’s support during the 2022 floods, highlighting the enduring bond between the nations.
Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that Pakistan values its relationship with Japan, noting that both countries share deep and friendly ties. She further stated that Japan has always supported Pakistan in challenging times, for which Pakistan remains grateful to both the Japanese government and its people.
She assured the ambassador that all possible facilities and protection would be provided to Japanese investors in Punjab, and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, minerals, IT, AI, robotics, and energy.
The Japanese ambassador also commended the development projects and public welfare initiatives led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Additionally, he praised the advancement of public welfare efforts by former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
