The Punjab government has approved cut in traffic penalties by reducing fines for motorcycles, cars, rickshaws, and heavy vehicles over rules violations across the province.
Under the revised plan, fines for motorcycles have been reduced from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000, while rickshaw fines have been dropped from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000 while fine over serious violations was set at Rs2,000.
Likewise, fines for public transport vehicles such as vans, coasters, buses, and trucks have also been significantly reduced, with penalties cut from Rs20,000 to as low as Rs7,000 depending on the category.
The decision was approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after a summary was submitted by the DIG Traffic Punjab.
For private cars and jeeps, penalties have been lowered from Rs5,000 to Rs3,000, although fines for overspeeding remain unchanged for all categories.
Luxury vehicles with engine capacity of 2,000cc and above will now face reduced penalties ranging between Rs2,000 and Rs10,000, down from a previous maximum of Rs20,000.
