Marriage hall owners warn of protest against ban on ceremonies

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Marriage Halls Association has rejected the ban imposed on holding wedding ceremonies, functions and events at night.

The owners of marriage halls suspended operations and canceled all weddings for a day in a protest against the ban on weddings at night. The halls association also announced to hold a protest in front of the Commissioner Office tomorrow. The owners have demanded the Hyderabad administration to withdraw its order.

The association has said that halls have received worth millions in advance. Hall owners are following all the SOPs and will do more but the halls cannot be closed, the association maintained.

On Nov 28, the Hyderabad administration had imposed a ban on holding wedding ceremonies, functions, events and gatherings at night due to a rise in Covid infections.

According to the notification, the provincial government, in order to stem the spread of coronavirus amid the second wave of the pandemic, had banned all the marriage ceremonies, gatherings and events at night in Hyderabad city. Wedding ceremonies will now take place outdoor from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., read the notification.

Earlier, the Sindh government had enforced a ban over indoor wedding functions, gymnasiums, and restaurants with an immediate effect while only allowing an exception for ceremonies being held outside amid the second wave of Covid-19.

According to the NCOC, marriages were not allowed in the marquees. The use of canopy tents in outdoor weddings was also banned. Atleast 1000 guests will be able to attend the outdoor wedding ceremony and it has been declared mandatory to keep a distance of 6 feet between the participants.

The host of the wedding will be responsible for the implementation of Corona SOPs. The duration of the ceremony will be 2 hours and the ceremony will end at 10 pm. Every guest will have to wear a mask. The host will provide masks and sanitizers to each guest attending the wedding.
