ISLAMABAD: The inaugural Margalla Hills Half Marathon, organized by Islamabad Run With Us, a leading running group, was a resounding success, drawing a large number of enthusiastic participants to Trail-5 amidst the lush greenery of nature on Sunday.
Romina Khurshid Alam, Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, praised the civil society’s initiative in promoting running as a healthy recreational pursuit while also advocating for climate awareness.
Addressing the participants and organizers at the event, she applauded their dedication and highlighted the importance of such activities in fostering awareness about climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The marathon, spanning 21.1 kilometers along the picturesque trail, saw a diverse turnout of over 150 participants, including members of the diplomatic community and foreigners.
Ms. Alam stressed the significance of conservation efforts, advocating against single-use plastic bottles as part of her campaign against plastic pollution. She underscored the crucial role of young people in combating plastic pollution, urging them to advocate for sustainable policies, acquire skills in green industries, and actively participate in implementing strategies to tackle environmental degradation caused by plastic pollution.
