A man has been killed after being run over by a water tanker in Karachi, in yet another fatal traffic incident involving heavy vehicles.
The accident occurred near Perfume Chowk in Gulistan-e-Johar, where the tanker struck the victim, leaving him critically injured. He was being transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Witnesses described the incident as horrific, with bystanders screaming at the scene. Following the accident, an enraged crowd set the water tanker on fire, while the driver fled.
Police from Shahrah-e-Faisal arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, calling in the fire brigade. Firefighters from the Gulistan-e-Johar station managed to extinguish the blaze affecting the front portion of the tanker.
Authorities said the identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, and the body has been shifted to the hospital. Station House Officer Imtiaz Hussain stated that the driver managed to escape, although reports suggest he may have been assaulted by members of the public.
Police are continuing their investigation, gathering eyewitness accounts and reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
