KARACHI: The West District Police launched a major crackdown on drug trafficking in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Pirabad Police Station, arresting four alleged drug dealers and demolishing three drug dens.
According to West Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tariq Mastoi, more than 70 police personnel, including female officers, participated in the operation, which was conducted in Magsi Mohalla and adjoining areas on Wednesday night.
The arrested suspects were identified as Akram, Aamir, Jamil and Muhammad Khan. Police said hashish, ice, heroin, cash and packaging materials were recovered from their possession. Separate cases have been registered against the suspects, police added.
The operation followed a raid conducted by Pirabad Police in Elahi Colony a day earlier, during which two alleged wanted drug dealers—Adnan, son of Baseer, and Irfan—were arrested. Police claimed that 1,051 grams of drugs were recovered from them and cases were registered.
Residents have alleged that drug trafficking has increased in the area and claimed that some drug dealers operate with the alleged patronage of police officials.
The police, however, said the latest operation was part of an intensified campaign against narcotics and vowed to continue action against drug networks in the West District.
