In a significant development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned the complainant woman in the harassment case against Pakistan cricket star Babar Azam.
The summons were issued as part of the court’s extension of its decision to suspend a trial court’s order that instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to register an FIR against the cricketer. The LHC has set a hearing date for December 12.
The case, which involves accusations of harassment, was heard by Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan. In March 2021, the LHC had suspended a session court’s order that had directed the FIA to file a case against Babar Azam. The decision came after Babar’s counsel, Haris Azmat, argued that the session court had made its judgment without hearing the cricketer’s side of the story.
The allegations against Babar Azam stem from a complaint filed by a woman named Hamiza Mukhtar from Lahore. She has accused the star batsman of blackmailing and threatening her. Hamiza Mukhtar also previously claimed that Babar sexually exploited her forced her to undergo an abortion, and made false promises of marriage.
The LHC’s decision to summon Hamiza Mukhtar is a key development in the ongoing legal battle.
