Lessons should be learnt before next year’s rain in Karachi: Fawad

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has called for learning lessons and planning for next year’s spell of monsoon rain in Karachi.

“The issue is that if rain stops today the situation returns to normal within a few days. We will forget everything and return to our normal life,” he said regarding the recent spell which left several parts of the city without power for four days.

“There will be rains again next year, routine life will be affected and voices will be raised. We should learn lessons and plan for next year to avoid a repeat of the situation,” Chaudhry said in a tweet.

The fifth spell of monsoon rain hit Karachi on Thursday, plunging the city into darkness for four days and most residential areas in the city flooded. The heavy monsoon showers left most areas of upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Clifton flooded and without power.

A protest was staged outside the office of Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) on Monday while another protest is planned on Thursday 3rd September outside the office of the DHA in Phase 1 area.
