LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) claimed to have detect tampering in 39 electricity meters out of a total of 2008 inspected in the Northern circle under the power-theft campaign of the Company in the province.
According to a statement, out of the 39 meters detected with irregularities, 19 were found with direct supply, five as shunt meters, four with the display open, six with display wash, one as a dead stop while four others were full of other discrepancies.
A company official, Amir Yaseen charged 74660 detection units under the head of power theft and filed applications in the respective police station for registration of FIRs against the accused.
Amir Yaseen said the Company is planning to initiates a drive to replace old electricity meters with smart meters in an attempt to control tempering and theft – the main reasons behind the piling circular debt and increase in tariffs.
He believes that updating the meter system will assist the company lessen line losses and theft to a satisfactory level in the province.
Furthermore, the LSECO Chief has ordered the Company employees to make sure an uninterrupted power supply during the Eid holidays to consumers.
The company chief issued instructions for special duties of relevant officers in different circles to deal with any interruption in power supply during the holidays.
