KARACHI: Land mafia has illegally encroached three acres of land belonging to Government Degree Girls College in Quaidabad and have started setting up plots and a water hydrant.
In 2009-10, former Sindh Assembly MPA Haji Muzaffar Shah Shujra had allotted three acres land to establish the educational institute for the people of the locality but the project was never launched.
In 2013, the land was encroached leading to strong protests by area residents. The Ibrahim Hyderi Muktiarkar lodged First Information Report (FIR) no. 03/2013 with the Anti-Encroachment Department.
Afterward, another land mafia group illegally occupied public land. The Ibrahim Hyderi Muktiarkar had the ringleader of the land mafia arrested but then the matter was pushed aside after an underhand deal was reached. Two acres of the land was handed over to the land mafia by declaring a village settlement which still stands today.
A 7-inch diameter water pipeline operated by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) is passing by on the remaining one acre land but is gradually being occupied by the land mafia.
Sources claimed that the land mafia is planning to establish an illegal water hydrant on the land. The value of the land will also rise after the inauguration of the Malir River Bridge. The encroachers intend to seize the bridge is built and have erected a wall around the compound.
It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court has already imposed a ban on the allotment of all public lands in the province and across the country.
