LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars defeat Quetta Gladiators by eight wickets in the 21st match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 5 at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
The Qalandars, placed at the bottom with just one win, seemed in a desperate mood for some points to stay in contention during the tournament. The team approached the match a knockout as it bowlers tore through the Gladiators batting lineup.
Samit Patel finished his four overs spell with the figure of 4-5 and set the tone for his team to dominate over the defending champions. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi removed Shane Watson for naught on the second delivery of the inning.
Gladiators were not able to start off things well. They lost openers earlier and only three batsmen entered into double figures. Sohail Khan was the highest scorer. The right-handed batsman scored 32 off 35 balls with the help of two boundaries and as many sixes. Zahid Mahmood scored run-a-ball 19 runs laced with two boundaries.
Lahore Qalandars reached the target within just 11.5 overs at the loss of two wickets. Fakhar Zaman scored while captain Sohail Akhtar scored just five. Mohammad Hafeez scored 39 and Ben Dunk scored 30 runs to secure the victory.
Lahore Qalandars have won the toss and decided to bowl first against Quetta Gladiators. Lahore made several changes as Chris Lynn has been ruled out due to injury.
Qalandars have made five changes and brought Fakhar Zaman, Dane Villas, David Wiese, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Farzan Raja. Gladiators benched Tymal Mills and teenage pacer Naseem Shah, who has been ruled out for a week and brought Fawad Ahmed and Zahid Mehmood.
