LAHORE: The Airport Security Force (ASF) arrested a man impersonating a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilot at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport on Tuesday, according to reports.
An ASF spokesperson stated that the man, identified as Ahmed, was caught trying to enter the international departure lounge with a fake PIA pilot identification card.
Ahmed was immediately handed over to the Airport Police for further legal action.
A case has been registered against him, and an investigation is underway to determine the extent of his fraudulent activities and any potential security threats.
It’s important to note that following a pilots’ license scandal, the European Aviation Agency banned all Pakistani airlines in July 2020.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has discovered a network of its employees and some pilots involved in a fake pilots’ licenses scam.
Sources report that the CAA is conducting raids to apprehend two suspects linked to the scam, after uncovering that some aviation employees used intermediaries to collect bribes for the fake licenses.
License branch employees allegedly accepted hundreds of thousands of rupees from each pilot to have someone else take their qualification exams.
