LAHORE: A district court on Friday issued arrest warrants of PMLN leader Capt (R) Safdar when he failed to appear in a case related to provocative speech against state institutions.
Just last month, the Lahore Judicial Magistrate Bilal Munir Warraich of District Cantt had issued the bailable arrest warrants for Capt (R) Safdar for skipping court hearings several times. The court then had issued the arrest warrants for the PML-N leader for Oct 21 (today).
Despite being summoned, Capt (R) Safdar failed to appear and instead, filed application seeking exemption from appearing in the court. The court rejected the exemption plea and issued arrest warrants, adjourning the hearing until October 25.
It may be recalled that the Islampura police in Lahore had registered a case against Capt (R) Safdar in 2019 and submitted the challan to the court after which the court had summoned Safdar for Oct 21 (today) for indictment.
A case had been registered against Captain (R) Safdar and others at Islampura police station in 2019 over a scuffle with police officials outside the accountability court during the appearance of the his wife, PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz.
