Since the news of Aamir Khan playing a pivotal role in the Hindi adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1994 Hollywood hit Forrest Gump broke, I was unsure whether I should watch the movie or not as no one on this would want to ruin a perfect Tom Hank’s Forrest Gump.
I did give it a try anyway and watched one of the most hyped movies of 2022 so far ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and now and I want my 2 hours back.
Khan was offered a remake of an amazing movie and I wonder why did he sign the movie anyway? Here are the key points that I noted and decided to call ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ a disaster for ruining the iconic ‘Forrest Gump’.
Aamir Khan and his repetitive role
Aamir Khan played the role in the movie as Laal Singh Chaddha, who seems to understand situations slower than others. Despite being a great actor, Khan failed miserably to deliver his role in this movie.
Not only this, but if one takes a close look, Khan has been repeating almost the same role in his movies previously released. Be it Dhoom 3 or PK, or Laal Singh Chaddha, his acting is almost the same.
Moreover, he has failed miserably in portraying the role of Laal as comparative to Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump.
Riots and Malaria
Aamir Khan has termed ‘puja paath’ (Hindu Holy prayers) as ‘malaria’ in the movie and also uses the dialogue that how such things cause ‘riots’. What else Khan was expecting from the secular state he lives in beside a boycott?
A literal insult to Indian Army
There is no doubt that the makers of the movie have literally depicted a mentally challenged person joining an Indian Army to fight in the Kargil War. This is wrong in many ways, no wonder many Indians are upset with the movie.
Saving a terrorist
In Forrest Gump, Hanks saves his fellow soldier during a war. On the other hand, Khan saves a terrorist obviously from Pakistan during the Kargil War.
Now, even after knowing that the person he saved was a terrorist who came to kill Indian soldiers, In the movie Laal (Khan) decides to ignore the fact, and later he invited him to join him in a business.
This whole scene does not make sense. Yes, one should not promote barbaric acts like ‘eye for an eye’. But at least Laal could have reported him and sent him to jail, who was freely roaming in India. BUT NO!
Why Forrest Gump
The Bollywood actor did everything possible to ruin Forrest Gump. He could have chosen any movie for a remake but no. He had to choose Tom Hanks starrer which was not only a hit movie in the 90s but also won an Oscar that year and is still famous among the new generation.
From acting to the storyline, Khan, who is known as Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood, left no stone unturned not to ruin the amazing movie.
