The Kuwaiti government has imposed a ban on collecting donations through social media platforms, declaring such activity a “red line.”
Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, issued a stern warning to charitable organizations, stating that fundraising via websites or social media is strictly prohibited and must be stopped immediately.
According to an official circular issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs, the decision to halt online fundraising was taken in the public interest.
The circular also cautions that any organization violating this directive will face legal consequences.
Minister Al-Huwailah cited observations in international reports—including those from the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA)—as a reason for adopting a more structured and cooperative approach to charitable activities.
