PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central Police Office (CPO) has released its report on terrorism-related incidents and counter-terrorism operations conducted so far this year, revealing that police personnel came under 294 militant attacks across the province.
According to the report, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) carried out a series of intelligence-led operations that resulted in the killing of 182 militants and the arrest of 504 suspected terrorists, including 14 most-wanted commanders.
The report said the CTD conducted 2,004 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) targeting militant hideouts and networks, describing the actions as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activity in the province.
It added that under the National Action Plan (NAP), law enforcement agencies carried out more than 2,742 operations, during which 10,540 suspects were taken into custody for questioning and investigation.
It may be added here that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly its southern districts bordering Afghanistan, has witnessed a resurgence in militant violence in recent years, with security personnel frequently targeted in attacks claimed by outlawed militant groups.
The province has remained at the forefront of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism campaign amid renewed security challenges following the withdrawal of foreign forces from neighbouring Afghanistan.
