LAHORE: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has narrated the reasons for launching ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ (Court Arrest Movement) which is set to start from Charing Cross, Lahore later today.
According to PTI plan, some mid-tier leaders, including former Punjab governor Umer Sarfraz Cheema, Senator Waleed Iqbal, former provincial minister Murad Raas along with more than 200 workers would court arrest in the first phase of the movement.
After Lahore, Peshawar will witness the launch of the court arrest drive on Feb 23. Rawalpindi will follow on Feb 24, Multan on Feb 25, Gujranwala on Feb 26, Sargodha on Feb 27, and Sahiwal on Feb 28. Faisalabad will join the movement on the first day of March.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Imran Khan said “today we start our Jail Bharo campaign for Haqeeqi Azadi for 2 main reasons. One, it is a peaceful, non violent protest against the attack on our constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights.We are facing sham FIRs and NAB cases, custodial torture, attacks on journalists & social media people.”

“Two, it is against the economic meltdown brought on by cabal of crooks who have money laundered billions in looted wealth & gotten NROs for themselves while crushing the people, esp the poor & middle class, under the burden of spiraling inflation & rising unemployment,” he said.
