The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a key operative of an organized hawala-hundi network during a raid in Adamjee Nagar, Karachi.
The suspect, identified as Ahmed Raza, was caught red-handed during the operation.
According to reports, an FIA spokesperson confirmed that Rs15 million in cash was recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.
The spokesperson said that Ahmed Raza is an important member of a well-organized hawala-hundi gang, and that investigators also seized mobile phones and digital evidence related to illegal money transfers.
The FIA added that the suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the recovered currency.
Raids are now underway to arrest other members of the network involved in the illegal money transfer operation.
Last month, FIA Karachi Zone arrested two key suspects in a major operation against illegal hawala-hundi and currency exchange networks.
The suspects were identified as Abdul Wasi and Daniyal Khizar. They were apprehended from Sharae Faisal and Tipu Sultan Road.
During the raid, FIA seized Rs10 million in cash from the suspects’ possession. Their mobile phones and other evidence were also seized, which provided important information regarding illegal financial transactions.
