Korangi Causeway sealed as Malir River floods

KARACHI: The Korangi Causeway Road was closed for vehicular traffic on Saturday morning after flooding in Malir River.

Traffic police closed both tracks for traffic to avoid any untoward incident due to the water flow. The traffic is being diverted to alternate routes of the Expressway and the Godam chowrangi.

The flooding caused in recent monsoon rainfall in Malir River and rising level of the water swept away the filter wall of the Malir spillway.

The breach in the dyke have posed threat to Korangi Industrial Area and surrounding areas. The Traffic Police had earlier closed Korangi Causeway for traffic due to the rising water level in Malir River.

Several motorcycles were also recovered from Korangi Causeway after the water level decreased after heavy downpour in the area last week.

Karachi’s Korangi EBM Causeway has been sealed on several occasions during the past month due to several heavy spells of rainfall in the city. The causeway was sealed earlier last week due to high water pressure due to a flood in the Malir River.
