KARACHI: Karachi is expected to see sever load shedding as K-Electric lost a record Rs 39.4 billion in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2022–23, it emerged on Saturday.
As per details, the K-Electric losses in the 9 months of 2021-22 were Rs 1.49 billion.
K-Electric units were consumed at a lower rate as a result of the economic crisis; 5.8% less units were consumed in the current fiscal year than in the previous fiscal year.
Due to the present inflation, bill payments at K-Electric have also decreased. According to K-Electric sources, the power distribution firm might not supply electricity to the city’s high-loss zones.
Moreover, in areas where power is stolen, the load shedding period is longer. In April, locations with higher rates of electricity theft may see load shedding for 8–12 hours, while areas with lower rates will experience it for 8–10 hours.
Earlier on April 14, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved an Rs0.58 per unit hike in the electricity tariff for K-Electric consumers.
