In a move that signals a significant shift in the city’s security posture, Inspector General (IG) Sindh has placed Karachi under a high-alert security blanket following intelligence reports of potential cross-border terror threats.
During an emergency high-level meeting, the IG Sindh reviewed “sensitive vulnerabilities” affecting both government and private installations. The directive was clear: Karachi’s borders are to be tightened immediately.
New Security Protocols Issued
Mandatory “general hold-ups” and stop-and-search operations twice daily across all districts.
The Quick Response Force (QRF) has been ordered to remain on permanent high alert for rapid deployment.
Massive reinforcement of police presence at all internal and external routes to prevent the movement of miscreants.
Intelligence-Led Crackdown
The IG has bridged the gap between the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and district police, mandating real-time intelligence sharing. This “rapid action” framework is designed to neutralize threats before they materialize.
Beyond terrorism, the IG is taking a zero-tolerance approach to urban disorder, ordering an accelerated crackdown on street crime and organized begging rings to clear the streets for better surveillance.
In a rare move, all senior police officials have been ordered out of their offices. They must now personally inspect sensitive sites and maintain a physical presence in the field to oversee the “Iron Shield” strategy.
“The safety of every Karachiite is non-negotiable. We are proactively responding to these cross-border developments to ensure no breach of peace occurs,” a senior official stated.
