Karachi residents faced gas load-shedding during iftar hours despite earlier assurances by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) that no outages would occur between 3:00am and 10:30pm during Ramadan 2026 (1447 Hijri).
According to ARY News, several areas, including Korangi, Jamshaid Road, Bihar Colony, North Karachi and Liaquatabad, reported gas suspensions and low pressure at peak cooking times. Many households complained of being unable to prepare iftar meals due to the disruption, while others said gas pressure remained too weak to operate stoves properly.
Earlier, SSGC had announced a special Ramadan gas supply schedule, stating that gas would be available daily from 3:00am before sehri until 10:30pm throughout the holy month. The company had assured consumers of improved supply and better pressure management during sehri and iftar hours to facilitate uninterrupted meal preparation.
In its statement, SSGC also highlighted that Pakistan’s indigenous gas reserves are depleting at an annual rate of up to 10%, leading to a steady decline in overall system supply. However, it said the Government of Pakistan had arranged additional gas volumes to help meet heightened demand during Ramadan, which would be distributed where required.
Despite these assurances, residents in several localities continue to experience outages and low pressure, prompting calls for immediate action to ensure consistent gas supply during the holy month.
