KARACHI: Police claimed to have made significant progress in the investigation into the suicide attack on Chinese teachers at Karachi University.
A high-level investigation team comprising DIG of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), SSP Malir Irfan Bahadur, SSP East Abdul Rahim Sheerazi and SSP AVCC Zubair Naseer is investigating the attack.
Police claimed to have raided at least three places where the suicide bomber Shari Baloch and her family stayed before the attack. According to police and investigation agencies, Baloch and her husband rented two apartments in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Delhi Colony while her father had a house in Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33 which the family vacated days before the attack.
The woman had reached Karachi University from Delhi Colony to carry out the attack. She boarded a rickshaw and dropped in front of the Confucius Department of Karachi University. When the female suicide bomber got off the rickshaw, a burqa-clad woman was also standing before the blast occurred at around noon.
Law enforcement agencies also traced the house of the suicide bomber’s house in Gulistan-e-Jauhar while another house in Scheme 33 has also been sealed after recovery of a number of laptops and documents.
Local residents said Shari Baloch seldom visited the flat in Gulistan-e-Jauhar rented about four years ago and never spoke to neighbours in the apartment building. They told police that her family visited the flat in a car bearing a government registration plate.
Shari Baloch’s husband also rented a house in Delhi Colony but vacated it sometime before the attack . Shari Baloch has seven siblings. Thee whole family is highly educated her sister Asma is a PhD holder. Her husband Habitan Baloch national identity card was also found while foreign SIMs were also recovered in the operation last night.
Investigative agencies have also started investigation from the owner of the flat. The rickshaw driver who brought the suicide bomber has also been traced and a statement was recorded after interrogation.
Investigators said that the suicide bomber used explosives such as C4 in the blast. A case of suicide blast in Karachi University has been registered in CTD Civil Line.
