A café in Surrey, British Columbia, reportedly owned by renowned Indian comedian and television star Kapil Sharma, has come under gunfire for the second time in less than a month, raising serious concerns about escalating extortion threats and gang-related violence in the area.

On Thursday morning, broken glass and at least six bullet holes were found at Kapil’s Café, located near 85 Avenue and Scott Road. According to the Surrey Police Service (SPS), officers were dispatched to the scene around 4:40 AM following reports of gunshots.

Local resident Bab Singh, who witnessed the shooting from his window, told CityNews Vancouver, “I heard five or six gunshots, and then the police arrived.”

This latest incident follows a similar attack on July 10, when armed men opened fire on the same café while staff were still inside. Although there were no injuries, multiple bullet marks were left on the property.

The recent shooting has now taken an international dimension. According to Indian media reports, two criminal groups—one led by gangster Goldy Dhillon and another linked to Lawrence Bishnoi—have claimed responsibility via social media.

In a video allegedly connected to the attack, gunshots can be heard along with a voice saying, “We tried calling the target, but he didn’t pick up, so we had to act. If he still doesn’t respond, the next action will take place in Mumbai soon.”

Indian security agencies, including the Mumbai Police, are reportedly reviewing the video and assessing potential threats in light of the message.

After the July 10 attack, Harjeet Singh Laddi, a wanted extremist affiliated with the banned Khalistani outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), had also claimed responsibility. Laddi accused Sharma of mocking the Sikh community in a segment of his show, which he said had deeply offended certain sections of the Sikh population.

The series of violent incidents has triggered heightened security alerts and further investigations into the involvement of international criminal networks and extremist groups.
