KARACHI: A junior officer of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has allegedly ordered the administration of provincial government’s water hydrant in Landhi to shut down the public utility in violation of the court orders.
According to details, Irfanullah Khan, in charge of bulk system, ordered the management of Future Colony Hydrant to shut down the public utility. A hydrant official also asked for any written orders to shut down the utility, however, the official didn’t provide any official notification in this regard.
When asked about who ordered to shut down the water hydrant, Irfanullah Khan refused to mention the name of the concerned official. Relevant sources have claimed that the owners of Future Colony Hydrant were being threatened to shift the public utility from Landhi ‘as soon as possible’.
However, the Landhi Future Colony Hydrant is still being operated for 18 hours while the two other government hydrants are in the possession of Syed Nasir Hussain Shah’s favorite contractors. Additional taps have also been installed in the hydrant against the KWSB rules.
It is pertinent to mention here that the closure of Future Colony Water Hydrant will create water crisis in Landhi, Korangi, Clifton, Defense, Bath Island, PIDC, Mahmoodabad, Akhtar Colony and other related areas.
Attempts were also made six months ago to illegally remove government water hydrants in Landhi, Korangi and Defense and Clifton residents. Later, MS Tariq & Co. approached the court, after which it issued a restraining order against the removal of the government hydrant in the public interest.
