LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s son Junaid Safdar has denied reports of his arrest in London ‘fake and baseless’.
It all started when a video was circulated on Twitter that he had been arrested by Scotland Yard with some claiming that he had been detained for allegedly obtaining a fake degree and others saying that he has been arrested in a case related to the discovery of a stolen Bentley car in Karachi.
In his response, Junaid Safdar in a statement said that the video belonged to 2018 when he was arrested over his response in self-defense to an attack carried out by the ‘PTI goons’.

He said that Scotland Yard took no further action after it found nothing against him in the investigation. “I am told that the journalist responsible for propagating this fake news has deleted his tweet, perhaps less out of moral considerations and more out of embarrassment,” he said.
“No apology or clarification was issued. Must really be a man of grace and integrity. I have nothing more to say about his conduct,” he said. Talking about allegations about his degree, he said that people should contact the universities for verification of his degrees.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s grandson received his master’s degree in International Relations (IR) from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020.

Junaid was awarded the master’s degree upon the completion of a full-time 12-month course at the prestigious university’s International Relations Department.
He has also done a master’s in Global Governance and Ethics from the University College London (UCL). Prior to the UCL, Junaid had graduated from Durham university with a first class honours in politics.
