ISLAMABAD: The judge who sentenced PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case has reportedly gone abroad.
Additional Session Judge Humayun Dilawar announced the hasty decision sentencing the former prime minister to three years in prison and ordered his immediate arrest. The PTI chief was swiftly arrested and transported to Islamabad where he was locked up in the Attock Jail.
After announcing the verdict, the judge quickly left for England with his family to spend his summer vacations. The judge will also attend a judicial conference at the University of Hull from August 5 to 13.
It has also been revealed that judge Humayun Dilawar’s name was added to the attend the judicial conference in England just a day before.
The Chief Justice Islamabad High Court had nominated a judge to join the Judicial Conference. The high court’s registrar wrote a letter to the session judge on August 4.
The letter said the name of Judge Humayun Dilawar should be added for training in place of Judge Faizan Haider. The letter added that Judge Humayun Dilawar will join training in London from August 5-13 at the University of Hull.
The process of joining the Judicial Conference of judges from Islamabad was going on for two months, sources said. The names of some judges were changed after they were not granted visas and other judges were added. In Peshawar, the names of some judges were changed due to not getting visas.
The judge had stoked controversy after the PTI chairman alleged bias towards him after several posts were revealed. The PTI chief even approached the high court to transfer the case but the appeal was rejected.
