Journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan thrashed by IB officials for exposing corruption

KARACHI: Employees of a government agency have beaten up well-known anchor Iqrar-ul-Hassan for exposing corruption.

According to reports, Iqrar-ul-Hassan had allegedly exposed the corruption video of the Director Intelligence Bureau (IB), on which Director IB Rizwan Shah and his team attacked the anchor. Hassan, who was injured due to the violence, has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where several stitches were placed on his head.

Five IB officers, including Director IB Rizwan Shah, have been suspended on the directive of the Prime Minister’s Office. The suspended officials include stenographer Mehboob Ali, Inam Ali, sub-inspector Rajab Ali, and head constable Muhammad Khawar.

Senior journalist Hamid Mir said in this regard that the Intelligence Bureau is reminiscent of the time when such treatment was given out to journalists and political activists in Lahore and Islamabad. Pakistan still stands where it stood 30 years ago. Violence against Hassan is highly reprehensible. This era is worse and more shameful than the previous ones.
