ISLAMABAD: The Metro bus service has been suspended in the federal capital after a strike by employees over non-payment of salaries today (Thursday).
According to details, the ticketing staff of the Metro bus service went on strike against the non-payment of salaries, resulting in suspension of service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The employees staged a sit-in at the IJP station, demanding immediate payment of their salaries. The staff members informed that they had not been paid salaries for the last three months.
The protestors said that during the lockdown the government was paying salaries to its employees but had failed to ensure the pays of employees working with private companies. “We have also filed a complaint on the Prime Minister’s Portal but no action has been taken yet,” they added.
The protesters have warned that they would continue their sit-in until their demands are not met. “This is our country, we do not want to damage our country’s property, but our only demand is that our salaries should be timely paid,” they added.
When contacted, Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service Operations Manager informed that they had cleared all payments to Inbox and it was the responsibility of the company to pay salaries to its employees.
