ISLAMABAD: As Islamabad prepares to host high-profile foreign delegations in the coming days — with diplomatic activity intensifying amid reports that a second round of US-Iran talks may take place in the federal capital — the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Monday issued a comprehensive reciprocal traffic plan to minimise disruption for residents and commuters.
Authorities have announced sweeping traffic restrictions across key arteries of the city, urging citizens to plan their travel accordingly.

MAJOR ROAD CLOSURES: The Red Zone and Extended Red Zone will remain completely sealed for all types of traffic for the duration of the delegations’ stay. The Expressway from Korang to Zero Point will also be closed to all vehicles, while traffic on Srinagar Highway may be intermittently halted at various points.
In addition, entry of all categories of heavy traffic into Islamabad — regardless of direction or highway of origin — will remain strictly prohibited. Heavy vehicle owners have been specifically requested not to travel towards Islamabad during this period to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
RECIPROCAL TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS: To facilitate the movement of Islamabad residents, ITP has outlined the following alternative routes:
– Residents of G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6 and F-7 should use 9th Avenue from Margalla Road for travel to and from Rawalpindi.
– Traffic on Faisal Avenue heading to or from Zero Point will be diverted onto 9th Avenue.
– In case of Zero Point to Korang Chowk closure, commuters may reach Korang via 9th Avenue from Srinagar Highway, then via Stadium Road, and onward from Murree Road Chandni Chowk to Rawal Road.
– In case of Park Road to Club Road closure, traffic will be diverted towards Tramri Chowk.
– Bhara Kahu residents travelling to and from Rawalpindi should use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road.
– Rawalpindi Saddar commuters heading to or from Islamabad may use either Colonel Sher Khan Road to Faqir Appi Road, or 9th Avenue.
HEAVY TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS: – Heavy vehicles travelling from GT Road Peshawar to Lahore should use the Taxila Motorway, Chakri Interchange, and Chak Beli Road to Rawat GT Road.
– Heavy vehicles travelling from GT Road Lahore to Peshawar should proceed towards Taxila via the Motorway, using Chakri Interchange from Chak Beli Road at GT Road Rawat.
STAY INFORMED: ITP has urged citizens to follow the Islamabad Traffic Police WhatsApp channel and official social media pages for real-time updates and guidance. Commuters may also tune in to ITP FM 92.4 for live traffic advisories.
Authorities have appealed for public cooperation, stressing that the restrictions are temporary and necessary to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of diplomatic engagements in the capital.
