ISLAMABAD: PML-N leader and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has asserted that state institutions, such as Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Pakistan Rangers directly report to Prime Minister Imran Khan and so the premier was responsible for Capt Safdar’s arrest.
“Someone gave them instructions and that person can only be the prime minister. No one else can do that,” he said while talking to journalists in Islamabad. He was commenting on the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Captain Safdar.
The former Prime Minister further said that the officials of both the institutions take their orders from the country’s premier. Reiterating the party’s stance that the IG Sindh was ‘pressurised’, Abbasi said that the Centre attacked the province.
“IG Sindh was kidnapped from 2 to 4 in the morning and taken to a local office to register an FIR. This is no trivial matter, it is a worrying thing,” he said, adding that the premier should have taken notice of the issue.
He also said, “These matters are very serious. The Constitution was violated, the authority of the province was challenged and the province’s top officer was kidnapped, adding that PM Imran would have to give an answer in this regard.
The PML-N leader said that he expected the courts to take suo motu notice of the incident. “Today a police officer was kidnapped and they didn’t take notice,” he remarked.
He said that the chief minister and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held press conferences but no contact was made by the country’s prime minister. “Bilawal, therefore, requested the army chief to order a probe into the incident,” he added.
