Twelve Pakistani youths have reportedly been kidnapped in Iran after human smugglers allegedly lured them with promises of sending them to Europe.
According to officials, the smugglers tortured the victims and sent videos of the abuse to their families while demanding ransom for their release.
An FIA Lahore Zone spokesperson said the victims had paid the traffickers to facilitate their journey to Italy via Iran.
“All available resources are being utilised to trace the missing youngsters as the agency is also coordinating with relevant authorities in Iran. Special investigation teams of the FIA are raiding multiple locations of human smugglers here for their arrest,” he said.
Of the 12 young men, seven belong to Lahore.
The spokesperson added that a case has been registered, and raids are underway to arrest those involved in the human trafficking network.
Special investigation teams have also been formed to secure the release of the kidnapped Pakistanis, while Pakistani authorities are coordinating with relevant agencies abroad to trace their whereabouts.
