NEW DELHI: The film ‘The Kerala Story’ has been declared tax-free in Uttar Pradesh after Madhya Pradesh.
Starring Adah Sharma among others, the film was released in cinemas on Friday, May 5, 2023, and was initially portrayed as ‘unearthing’ the events behind ‘approximately 32,000 women’ allegedly missing from Kerala. However, according to the CPI-M and the Congress in Kerala, the film falsely claims that 32,000 women got converted and radicalised and were deployed in terror missions in India and the world.
“The Kerala Story” has proved to be a controversial film as protests and petitions have challenged its release, with some alleging that it portrays Muslims negatively. The controversy has sparked a political controversy in Kerala, and the police have sought legal advice on a complaint about the movie teaser.
The film-makers later changed the figure in the film’s trailer from 32,000 to 3. Despite this, several BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have spoken favourably of the movie. The controversy surrounding the film has led to protests and petitions challenging its release, with some alleging that it portrays Muslims negatively.
The decision to make the film tax-free in both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh has further fuelled the controversy surrounding the film. The police in Kerala have sought legal advice on a complaint about the movie teaser, while the political controversy surrounding the film continues to grow.
