An accountability court has scheduled January 6, 2025, for the announcement of the verdict on the £190 million reference involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.
The verdict, originally set for Monday, was postponed by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana. The judge explained that the decision would not be delivered due to upcoming holidays and a course at the high court.
Advocate Khalid Chaudhry, representing the PTI leadership, had anticipated the ruling on Monday but was informed that a new hearing date would be set soon.
The trial for the £190 million reference was concluded within a year, with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recording statements from 35 witnesses.
The court had reserved its decision on December 18, with the initial announcement date set for December 23. In 2019, the NCA seized assets worth £190 million from a property tycoon in Britain. These funds were returned to Pakistan under a confidential agreement approved by Imran Khan’s cabinet without public disclosure.
Allegedly, the money was deposited into the Supreme Court as part of a settlement with the tycoon. In return, Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and their associates reportedly received 458 kanals of land to establish the Al-Qadir Trust, which runs an educational institution.
The trust was formed shortly after the settlement approval, and its initial trustees included Zulfi Bukhari, Babar Awan, and Bushra Bibi’s close associate Farah Khan. The land transfer has been described by investigators as a quid pro quo for legitimizing the tycoon’s wealth
