Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, demanding a judicial inquiry into killing of journalist Arshad Sharif.
The senior journalist was killed in Kenyan capital Nairobi on October 23 where he was living in self-exile.
Kenyan police first said that Arshad Sharif was killed in a case of “mistaken identity” but since the seasoned journalist’s post-mortem and his body’s transfer to his home country, several Kenyan news outlets have not only questioned the police’s conduct but have raised questions over the manner in which he was killed.
In the letter, the former premier urged the chief justice to constitute a ‘free’ judicial commission to investigate the murder of senior journalist.
It’s worth mentioning that thousands of Pakistani citizens have written letters to Chief Justice of Pakistan, demanding justice for the journalist.
Alizah Arshad, Arshad Sharif’s daughter, urged in a letter to the Supreme Court (SC) judges earlier in December that a judicial committee be established to look into the assassination case involving her father.
She begged the noble justices who held powerful positions to give the victims justice. She proposed that a judicial panel be established and that the hearings be held in public.
Alizah said that the assassins of her father must be given strict punishment due to their barbarism. Justice delayed is justice denied, she concluded.
